I have to admit I am getting a little annoyed at all the negative press we as an industry have been getting in the news turn on the TV, radio or open print media …and realtors are blood sucking scum who sit around doing nothing and collect huge cheques Much of the information is misleading or completely wrong. I do how ever think that the public has a point. When a house sells in a week and the seller cooperates in the getting ready to sell process “– I understand that the paying a large fee may seem unfair. Are there agents who do very little for the money they earn – as in any industry there is the good and the bad. BUT PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE SIGNING.
Here are some interesting stats I have read over the ten years I have been selling real estate in Ottawa.
1) Most people -80 % only interview one agent ………..how do you know what out there if you do not shop around.
2) Most people do more research on buying a washing machine then the do in choosing a Realtor.( Becuse your washing machine is your largest asset?)
3) There have been a variety of commission structures out there in the market place for a long time.
What are you getting for the fees you are paying ask for a break down – by the way there are generally two parties to a transaction The Sellers Agent and the Buyers Agent and both parties need compensation.
What is important to you – professional pictures, professional staging, help coordinating handy man, painters, do you need boxes for packing up do you need help with packing. Do you need art work – some funky new pillows and accessories from your Realtors inventory? You can have it all and more or nothing. I have been offering a variety of services at a variety of prices Do you want open houses how many? Feature sheets coloured or black and white, professionally printed or photocopied. Where is your home going to be advertised? Why is being advertised there. Is the realtor
Looking for a Flat fee ask for it – shop around find someone who suits your needs and pay for what is important to you.
